Solar STEM Projects

Reproducing the sunflower model in California involved collaboration with the local community college engineering club. Components, solar cells and motors were purchased in the U.S. and adapted to the solar sunflower specs by soldering work. Additional pre-assembly of wood and metal components took place in a garage-based workshop. The solar kits were then driven or shipped to various schools.

Afterschool STEM Enrichment Programs in underfunded school districts (solar sunflower, solar car and DIY motor projects in Newark, CA). Over 600 children have participated to date.

The 2015 Solar-a-thon involved children in the U.S. and 16 countries. As the children constructed their solar models and spoke about their understanding of solar energy, they were photographed and/or filmed in their countries at noon local time.
